I originally posted this for all the Geeks over at the CBS.com "The Big Bang Theory" TV series Forum site for a past Holiday Season.  I think I wrote the lyrics back in 1990 when I was doing "Open Mic" out at The Stage Stop Cantina in Reno, Nevada.  The only difference, here I changed the girls names to "Penny &  Bernadette" for "The Big Bang Theory" crowd.  When You perform this song you can substitute any two names that your audience will recognize (the bawdier the better) that work for you.

MERRY MITHRAS, THE SCHRODINGER'S CAT OF HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

Merry Mithras, the Holiday for Geeks that runs from October 31st to January 31st–so we can get in all those post holiday sales.  For Geeks in a Universe where the only Law of Nature is change (and nothing is certain, not  even that), there are no specific dates  to exchange presents or mandatory dinners and parties as normally dictated by fascist Mothers-in-law or Corporate Marketing gimmicks.
Merry Mithras  is the Schrodinger's Cat of Holiday Celebrations, it's either there or it isn't there  according to how You want to Observe It.  And Red & Yellow, Black & White, and even Jewish Geeks like Howard all get to Observe it with equivalency and parity.
And everybody Else's seasonal celebration calculations can be added to or subtracted from Your Holiday equations as You choose.  If it sounds like a boring Christmas Eve dinner where Dad and Grandpa are going to get drunk and find out from each other why the other isn't good enough for Your Mom, or fight over whether the Grinch commercializes the celebration of Jesus' Birthday (date stolen and assimilated by the Church from the Roman soldiers' celebration of Mithras' birthday), just tell 'em, "Sorry, can't make it, I'm 'observing' Merry Mithras  and celebrating it with my own little Penny this year."

    *Chestnuts roasting in the microwave
Jack Daniels lighting up your nose
Yuletide carols being sung on MTV
And folks dressed up in Sergios
Everybody knows that Penny and Bernadette
Help to make the season bright
High School kids with their eyes all aglow
From the pot they snuck tonight

Pretend that Santa's on his way
In 3D CGI we'll watch him on his sleigh
And every Mother's Child is gonna spy
To see if old weird Uncle Harold gets high
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To Geeks from one to ninety-two
And now it's been said many times, many ways
    Merry Mithras to You!

(*with apologies to Mel Torme & Robert Wells)

I managed to get my late Father, an accomplished Jazz musician, to make one of his last recordings ever as this satire of Mel Torme's & Robert Wells' great Holiday Classic "The Christmas Song."  I normally couldn't get Dad to do a satire like this, but he knew his time was getting short.  This will always be one of my final fondest memories of him.  This is his playing "The Christmas Song" on Piano and then he went back and dubbed himself in playing bass, to the above "The Merry Mithras Song" lyrics:
    {ed. Note: This is a "Grown-up" link, but nothing like the furtive adult links I get all the time in pseudonymous Twitter}
