    A Beatles' Medley
    Composition by M. Dawson Holland

THE NEXUS SUITE/SEE HOW THEY RUN

    Turn off Your Mind
    Relax
    and float downstream
It is not dying, it Is not dying

    Lay down All Thoughts
    Surrender to The Void
It is Shining, it Is Shining

    That You May See
    the Meaning of With-In
It is Speaking, it Is Speaking

    That Love is ALL
    and Love is Everyone
It is Knowing, it Is Knowing

    When Ignorance and Haste
    may morn The Dead
It is Believing, it Is Believing

    But Listen to the Color
    of Your Dreams
It is not living, it Is not Living

    Or Play
    The GAME EXISTENCE
    to The End
    Of The Beginning,
    of The Beginning
    of The Beginning,
    of THE BEGINNING...

    (a beat)

...They told You ‘bout STRAWBERRY FIELDS:

    ...Let Me Take You Down
    ‘cause I'm Going to
    Strawberry Fields
    NOTHING
    Is REAL
    and,
    No-thing to get hung about
    Strawberry Fields Forever

    Living is Easy
    with EYES CLOSED
    Misunderstanding ALL!
    ...you SEE!

It's getting hard to Be Someone
    But, It ALL works out
    It DOESN'T MATTER MUCH
    To Me!

...No One, I Think, Is in My Tree
I mean It must be HIGH or low
(Left or Right, right or wrong)
That Is, you can't, you Know
    TUNE IN
    But, It's ALL RIGHT
    That Is,
I Think It's not TOO BAD

    ...Always Know
    Sometimes Think it's me
    But, You know,
    I Know
    when It's a Dream
    I Think I Know
    I Mean,
    A YES,
    But,
    It's all Wrong
    That Is,
    I THINK I DISAGREE

    Let Me take You down
    ‘cause I'm Going To
    Strawberry Fields...

    ...You Know!
    The Place where No-thing-Is-Real
Well Here's Another Place You can GO
    Where Everything FLOWS
Looking through the bent back tulips
To SEE How The Other Half Live

    LOOKING THROUGH A GLASS Onion!

I'll Tell You ‘bout THE WALRUS
    and me, man
You Know that we're as CLOSE
    as can BE, man...

    ...I AM HE
    AS YOU ARE HE
    AS YOU ARE ME
    AND WE ARE ALL
    TOGETHER!

    SEE HOW THEY RUN
    Like Pigs from a gun
    SEE HOW THEY FLY

    I'm CRYING!

    Sitting on a cornflake
    Waiting for the ‘VAN
    TO COME!

    Corporation tee-shirt
    Stupid bloody Tuesday Man
    You been a naughty Boy
You Let Your Face Grow Long

    I AM THE EGG-MAN
    THEY are the Egg-men
    I AM THE WALRUS...

    ...Mr. City Policeman
    Sitting pretty
    Little policemen
    in a Row
    SEE HOW THEY FLY
    Like LUCY IN THE SKY...

    ...Picture Yourself
in a boat on a River
with tangerine trees and marmalade skies
    Somebody CALLS YOU
    You ANSWER
    quite slowly
    A Girl with KALEIDOSCOPE EYES

Cellophane FLOWERS of yellow & green
    Towering
    OVER YOUR HEAD!

Look for The Girl with THE SUN in Her EYES
    and She's gone!

    ...Follow Her down
to a BRIDGE by a Fountain
    where Rocking Horse People
    eat marshmallow pies

    EVERYONE SMILES
    as You DRIFT
    past THE FLOWERS
    that grow so INCREDIBLY HIGH
    (over their heads)

    NEWSPAPER taxis
    appear on The Shore
    WAITING
    to TAKE YOU AWAY
    Climb in THE BACK
    with Your HEAD-IN-THE-CLOUDS
    ...and You're GONE...

    ...Picture Yourself
    on a TRAIN-IN-A-STATION
    with Plasticine Porters
    with LOOKING GLASS ties
    Suddenly Someone is There
    at the Turnstile
The Girl with the KALEIDOSCOPE EYES

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS!

    ...SEE HOW THEY FLY
    like Lucy In The Sky
    SEE HOW THEY RUN

    I'm CRYING!

    YELLOW MATTER custard
dripping from a Dead Dog's EYE
    Crabalocker Fishwife
    Pornographic Priestess
boy you been a naughty girl
    you let your knickers down

    I AM THE EGG-MAN
    THEY are the Egg-men
    I AM THE WALRUS...

    Sitting in an English Garden
    Waiting for THE SUN...

    ...HERE COMES THE SUN!
    HERE COMES THE SUN!

    I say, It's Alright!

    Little Darling
It's BEEN a long long lonely WINTER

    Little darling
It FEELS like YEARS since IT'S BEEN HERE...

    Little Darling
The Smile's returning to Their Faces

    Little Darling
It SEEMS like YEARS since IT'S BEEN HERE

SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES!
SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES!
SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES!
SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES!
SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES!

    Little Darling
I FEEL the ICE is SLOWly MELTing

    Little Darling
It SEEMS like YEARS since IT'S BEEN CLEAR!

    HERE COMES THE SUN!
    HERE COMES THE SUN!

    I say, It's Alright!

    ...If THE SUN don't COME
YOU get a tan from standing
    in the English RAIN...

    ...If THE RAIN COMES
    THEY RUN
    and Hide Their Heads
They might as well BE Dead

    When THE RAIN COMES
    When THE RAIN COMES

    If THE SUN SHINES
    THEY Slip
    into The Shade
    sipping Their Kool-aid

    When THE SUN SHINES
    When THE SUN SHINES...

    ...I can show you
    That IF
    IT Starts TO RAIN
    EVERYTHING"S the SAME

    I CAN SHOW YOU!
    I CAN SHOW YOU!

    CAN YOU HEAR ME
    That When IT
    RAINS or SHINES
It's just a STATE OF MIND

    CAN YOU HEAR ME!
    CAN YOU HEAR ME!

    ...I AM THE EGG-MAN
    THEY are the Egg-men
    I AM THE WALRUS...

    SEE HOW THEY SMILE
    like PIGS in a sty...

...Have You SEEN the little PIGGIES
    Crawling in THE DIRT
and for ALL the little piggies
    LIFE is GETTING WORSE
    Always having DIRT
    to PLAY around IN

Have You SEEN the BIGGER PIGGIES
    in Their starched White Shirts
You will Find the bigger piggies
    STIRRING UP THE DIRT
    Always have CLEAN Shirts
    to PLAY around IN

    In Their Styes
    With All Their BACKING
    THEY don't CARE
    What GOES ON around

    In Their EYES
    There's SOMETHING lacking
    What THEY Need's
    A DAMN GOOD WHACKING!

    EVERYWHERE there's Lots of piggies
    Living PIGGY LIVES
    You will Find THEM
    OUT TO LUNCH
    with Their piggy wives
    clutching forks & knives
    to Eat Their
    BACON...

    ...SEE HOW THEY SMILE
    like Pigs in a sty
    SEE HOW THEY SNIDE

    I'M CRYING!

They can see that He's just a fool
and HE NEVER GIVES AN ANSWER

But, The Fool on the Hill
    Sees THE SUN going down
and the EYES in His head
    SEE the World SPINNING ROUND

and stops My Mind from Wandering
    WHERE IT will Go

    I'm filling the CRACKS
    that ran through THE DOOR
and kept My Mind from Wandering
    WHERE IT will Go

    And it really doesn't matter
    If I'm wrong, I'm RIGHT
    WHERE I BELONG, I'm right
    Where I belong

    SEE THE PEOPLE standing THERE
    Who Disagree and NEVER WIN
and WONDER WHY THEY don't get IN MY DOOR

    I'm PAINTING the ROOM
    In a COLORFUL WAY
and WHEN My Mind is Wandering
    THERE I will Go

    And it really doesn't matter
    If I'm wrong, I'm RIGHT
    WHERE I BELONG, I'm right
    Where I belong

    SILLY PEOPLE RUN AROUND
    THEY Worry Me
    and Never Ask Me
WHY THEY don't get past MY DOOR

    I'M TAKING the TIME
    for a number of THINGS
    that weren't IMPORTANT YESTERDAY
    and I Still Go!

I'm FIXING A HOLE where THE RAIN gets IN
and stops My Mind from Wandering
    WHERE IT will Go
    where it WILL GO...

...FIXING A HOLE in THE OCEAN

    ...WE WERE TALKING
    ABOUT
    THE SPACE
    Between US ALL

    and the PEOPLE
    WHO Hide themselves
    BEHIND
    THE WALL
    of ILLUSION

    NEVER GLIMPSE the TRUTH
    then it's FAR too LATE
    WHEN They pass away

    WE WERE TALKING
    ABOUT
the Love WE ALL could SHARE
    When WE FIND IT
    to try OUR BEST
    to HOLD IT THERE

    with OUR LOVE
    WE could SAVE THE WORLD
    IF THEY ONLY knew

    Try to Realize
    It's ALL WITHIN YOURSELF
No one Else can make You Change
    and to SEE You're Really
    ONLY VERY SMALL
and Life FLOWS ON With-in You
    and With-out
    You

    WE WERE TALKING
    ABOUT
the Love that's gone so COLD
    and the PEOPLE
    Who gain the World
    and LOSE THEIR SOUL
    THEY don't KNOW
    THEY can't SEE
    Are You one of Them?

    WHEN YOU'VE SEEN
    Beyond Yourself
    THEN You may find
    Peace of Mind
    is Waiting THERE
    AND the TIME WILL COME
    WHEN YOU SEE
    WE'RE ALL ONE
and Life FLOWS ON With-in You
    and With-out
    You

...When I get to The BOTTOM
I go back to The TOP
    of The SLIDE
WHERE I Stop and I Turn
and I go for a RIDE
TILL I get to The BOTTOM
    and I SEE YOU Again

LOOK OUT, ‘CAUSE HERE SHE COMES!

When I get to The BOTTOM

and I go for a RIDE
TILL I get to The BOTTOM
    and I SEE YOU Again

    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    TAKE IT easy
    TAKE IT easy

    EVERYBODY'S got SOMETHING to HIDE
Except for Me and My MONKEY

    The HIGHER You fly
    The HIGHER You FLY
    The DEEPER You GO
    So come on,
    COME ON

COME ON is such a JOY
COME ON is such a JOY

    COME ON Make IT EASY
    COME ON Make IT EASY

    MAKE IT easy
    MAKE IT easy

    EVERYBODY'S got SOMETHING to HIDE
Except for Me and My MONKEY

    ...THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
    That LEADS to YOUR DOOR
    Will NEVER DISAPPEAR
    I've SEEN THAT ROAD before
    It ALWAYS leads Me HERE
    Lead Me to Your DOOR

    The Wild and WINDY Night
    That THE RAIN Washed Away
has left a POOL OF TEARS
    CRYING for THE DAY
    Why leave Me Standing HERE?
    Let Me KNOW THE WAY

    Many Times I've been Alone
    and many times I'VE CRIED
    Anyway You'll NEVER KNOW
    the Many WAYS I've TRIED

And STILL they lead Me BACK
to the LONG and WINDING ROAD
    You left Me Standing HERE
    a long long time ago
    Don't leave Me Standing HERE
    LEAD Me to YOUR DOOR

But still they lead Me BACK
    to the LONG WINDING ROAD
    You left Me Standing HERE
    a long long time ago
    Don't keep Me Waiting HERE
    LEAD ME TO YOUR DOOR

    ...Lo! ‘Tis a gala night
    Within the lonesome latter years
    An angel throng, bewinged, bedight
In veils, and drowned in tears,
Sit in a theatre, to see
A play of hopes and fears
    While the orchestra breathes fitfully
    The music of the spheres.

Mimes, in the form of God on high,
    Mutter and mumble low
    And hither and thither fly–
Mere puppets they, who come and go
At bidding of vast formless things
That shift the scenery to and fro,
Flapping from out their Condor wings
    Invisible Woe!

    That motley drama–oh be sure
    It shall not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not.
Through a Circle that ever returneth in
    To the self-same spot,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.

But see, amid the mimic rout
    A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
    The scenic solitude!
    It writhes!–it writhes!–with mortal pangs
    The mimes become its food,
And the angels sob at vermin fangs
    In human gore imbued.

    Out–out are the lights–out all!
    And, over each quivering form.
    The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
And the angels, all pallid and wan,
    Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

...In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed–
But a waking dream of life and light
    Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! What is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
    Turned back upon the past?

    That holy dream–that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
    A lonely spirit guiding.

What through that light, thro' storm and night,
    So trembled from afar–
What could there be more purely bright
    In Truth's day-star?

...Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
    Thus much let me avov–
    You are not wrong, who deem;
    That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none.
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

    I stand amid the roar
    Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
    Grains of the golden sand–
How few! Yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
    While I weep–while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
    Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
    One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

..."The Sun was shining on the Sea,
    Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
    The billows smooth and bright–
And this was odd, because it was
    The middle of the night.

    The Moon was shining sulkily,
    Because she thought the Sun
Had got no business to be there
    After the Day was done–
‘It's very rude of him,' she said,
‘To come and spoil the fun!'

The Sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud, because
No cloud was in the Sky:
    No birds were flying overhead–
There were no birds to fly.

    THE WALRUS AND THE CARPENTER
    Were walking close at hand:
They wept like anything to see
    Such quantities of sand:
‘If this were only cleared away,'
They said, ‘it would be grand!'

‘If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year,
Do you suppose,' the Walrus said,
‘That they could get it clear?'
‘I doubt it,' said the Carpenter,
    And shed a bitter tear.

‘O Oysters, come and walk with us!'
    The Walrus did beseech.
‘A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
    Along the briny beach:
We cannot do more than four,
To give a hand to each.'

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
    And shook his heavy head–
Meaning to say he did not choose
    To leave the Oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
    All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat–
And this was odd, because, you know,
    They hadn't any feet.

    Four other Oysters followed them,
    And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more–
All hopping through the frothy waves,
    And scrambling to the shore.

    The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
    Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
    And waited in a row.

‘The time has come,' the Walrus said,
    ‘To talk of many things:
    Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
    Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the Sea is boiling hot–
    And whether pigs have wings.'

‘But wait a bit,' the Oysters cried,
    ‘Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!'
    ‘No Hurry!' said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.

‘A loaf of bread,' the Walrus said,
    ‘Is what we chiefly need:
    Pepper and vinegar besides
    Are very good indeed–
Now, if you're ready, Oysters dear,
    We can begin to feed.'

‘But not on us!' the Oysters cried,
    Turning a little blue,
‘After such kindness, that would be
    A dismal thing to do!'
‘The night is fine,' the Walrus said,
    ‘Do you admire the view?

‘It was so kind of you to come!
    And you are very nice!'
    The Carpenter said nothing but
    ‘Cut us another slice.
I wish you were not quite so deaf–
I've had to ask you twice!'

‘It seems a shame,' the Walrus said,
‘To play them such a trick.
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!'
    The Carpenter said nothing but
    ‘The butter's spread too thick!'

‘I weep for you,' the Walrus said:
    ‘I deeply sympathize.'
With sobs and tears he sorted out
    Those of the largest size,
    Holding his pocket-handkerchief
    Before his streaming eyes.

    ‘O Oysters,' said the Carpenter,
    ‘You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
    But answer came there none–
And this was scarcely odd, because
    They'd eaten every one."

(Ed. Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–of cabbages–and kings–and why the Sea is boiling hot–and whether Pigs have wings, addendum)

...If you didn't care what happened to me
And I didn't care for you
    We would zig-zag our way
    Through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain
Wondering which of the buggers to blame
    And watching
    For pigs on the wing

...You know that I care what happens to you
And I know that you care for me
    So I don't feel alone
Or the weight of the stone
Now that I found somewhere safe
    To bury my bone
    And any fool knows
    A dog needs a home
    A shelter
    From pigs on the wing

...In a way the Sun has shone on me
Makes it easy to make it hard
Take an inch, take a yard
    Take it all
I don't need it at all

Any day the Sun could shine on you
Makes it silly to make it bad
Take it good, take it glad
    Take it all

    Don't you know there's a stronger thing
    Keeping us together
Don't you know there's a song to sing
Sing on, let the feeling take you higher

Any day the Sun will shine on you
Makes it silly to take it bad
Make it good, take it glad
    Take it all
I don't need it at all
I don't need it at all
